FleetBroadband
FleetBroadband is Inmarsat’s maritime equivalent to the BGAN system, consisting of Satellite Internet, Telephone, SMS Texting and ISDN Network for ocean going vessels. Using portable domed terminal antennas, and corresponding indoor controllers, the system connects phones and laptop computers from vessels, on any ocean, with the rest of the world. Available features are:
- Standard IP For email, internet and intranet access via a secure VPN connection, at speeds up to 432kbps over a shared channel.
- Streaming IP Guaranteed data rates on demand up to 256kbps. Choose the data rate on a case by case basis, depending on your application.
- Voice Make voice calls at the same time as accessing your data applications. Voicemail is also available. Group 3 fax is supported via the voice channel.
- ISDN Supports ISDN at 64kbps for your legacy applications.
- SMS Send and receive text messages – up to 160 characters.
Why would a FleetBroadband be useful?
The FleetBroadband was originally made available to increase crew welfare by offering the ability to send e-mail, make phone calls and receive news from home whilst at sea. Since 2007, Inmarsat have been able to introduce many more reasons to make a FleetBroadband a real asset to your vessel.
Efficiency has been improved because of FleetBroadband. ECDIS is able to be updated, new software can be downloaded and more importantly offering the ability to connect 24/7 to a company network so you can be in the office whilst at sea.
Safety features include damage assessment videos, photos and reports, Off-the-self cameras for surveillance for use on the vessel or remote surveilance, on-line procurement and reliable communication with emergency services.
