The Torqeedo Cruise 2.0 R is very similar to the Cruise 2.0, it is a 24 volt electric outboard but it also comes with some excellent additions. It is waterproof (IP 67), has remote steering and an overall efficiency of 51%!
Efficiency in electric outboards is vital and Torqeedo have made sure their range of outboards are extremely efficient. The Cruise 2.0R has an overall efficiency of 51% which means that over half of the energy supplied by batteries is transformed into propulsive power. - What it really means is that you will be able to travel using less batteries than on other less efficient outboard motors. The Cruise 2.0R makes use of lead batteries, usually two 12v connected in series or a extremely powerful Torqeedo Power lithium-based battery.
The Cruise 2.0R is waterproof (IP 67) which protects it against submersion up to 1m in depth for up to 1 hour.
Remote Steering - The Cruise 2.0 R is intended for boats, which are controlled with remote steering and remote throttle, as well as for sailboats steered with a rudder.
What kind of range could be expected from the Cruise 2.0 R
The Torqeedo Cruise 2.0 R was tested on a 30 square meter skerry cruiser 12.4 meters in length weighing 2,600 kg. Two 12v 200Ah lead batteries were used and the outboard was able to output the following:
- Slow Speed - A speed of 1.5 knots, with a range of 165 nm over 110 hours
- Half Throttle - A speed of 2.7 knots, with a range of 44.6 nm over 16 hours and 30 minutes
- Full Throttle - A speed of 5 knots, with a range of 10 nm over 2 hours
