Travel 503

The Travel 503 from Torqeedo is one of the latest from their successful range of extremely efficient electric outboards. It's best feature is the fact it is fully submersible.

The 503 was released in Spring 2010 and has proven to be a worthy addition to the Torqeedo range. The fully waterproof design means that the motor including it's battery can be submersed into water up to 1 meter deep for up to 1 hour. Perfect if you accidentally drop it whilst removing it from the transom.

The 503 has a built in GPS receiver which gives you accurate information including speed, distance remaining on the current battery and distance traveled. There is an audible alarm which sounds when the battery charge reaches 30%.

What makes this outboard truly unique is the ability to charge the battery from solar power using the CIGS 45 Watt Solar Charger - whilst the outboard motor is in use! This makes the outboard capable of traveling all day.

Differences Between the 503 and 1003

The Torqeedo 503 - released at the same time as the 1003 is a slightly less powerful motor with a 325Wh battery and a 3 bladed prop. The 503 is suitable for boats up to a weight of 750Kg. Using the supplied battery the 503 is capable of traveling for up to 6 hours.

The 1003 features a high performance 2 bladed prop and a 520Wh battery - 30% higher battery capacity than the Torqeedo 503. The 1003 is suitable for boats up to a weight of 1.5 Tons. Using the supplied battery the 1003 is capable of traveling for up to 8 hours.

Safety

The electric outboards have a very clever security device that is attached to your wrist or life vest and the remote throttle. When the magnet is removed the motor will switch off. It's not until this magnet is attached again that the motor will run again.
